Gansu Hydropower Hydraulic Machinery Co.,Ltd., Linxia,Gansu 731600,China) Abstract;A full working scenario finite element analysis was performed to the 50m long distributing arm of a belt machine,which was the first of this length that has been developed in China.Accurate modeling and simulation of the boundary conditions were achieved for the distributing arm with ANSYS software. The procedure for a full working scenario analysis is summarized and solutions are proposed for the encountered problems.Most importantly, the development of ultimate stress curves during a full run of the distributing arm was researched as well as the reasons. The overturning moments generated at different pitch angles were also studied.The result shows that the finite element analysis can be employed to provide a more prehensive and accurate guide to the design of distributing arms. The bearing capacity of stiffener members has been greatly improved by paring the calculation results through simulation analysis on axial pressed bearing capacity. Also,by grouping nine entity models basing on their lengths and heights,size range of the stiffener of greater bearing capacity can be obtained.The bearing capacity has been shown to be significantly improved after analyzing both the increment of bearing capacity of the stiffener and the one of steel consumption.
