described in this guideline is written for a generic project andmust be adapted to each specific project.

3.2 This guideline describes the Cx and is supplemented by panion technical guidelines. A technical guidelinedescribes the specific details to properly implement the Cxrelative to a specific facility system or assembly. Informative Appendix A in this guideline provides the required format fordeveloping technical guidelines for the Cx.

FOREWORD

The Commissioning Process (Cx) is α qualiry-focused processfor enhancing the delivery of α project by achieving validat- ing. and documenting the performance of facility elements inthrough al phsesofew or major renovation projects from meeting the objectives and criteria of the Owner. Cx extendspredesign to Owner occupoancy and operation wirth tasksduring each phase to ensure verijfication of design construc- tion and operator training.

4. DEFINITIONS

4.1 Terminology

-dodde uosd quuogeuda ate authority (which may or may not be contractuallydefined) to declare that some aspect of the project meets defined requirements thus permitting subsequent activities toproceed.

Whereas ASHRAE/IES Stcndlard 202 defines the minimuacceptable Cx for α project ASHRAE Guideline O outfines best practices and establishes the order of phases in whichthe ponents of the Cx are best mplemented. It provides α template for Cx Plans for specific facility elements or assem-form method for achieving different levels of missioning blies and establishes mon content that serves as α uni-and meeting varying Owner's requirements. The guidelinesioning guidelines more narrowly targeted and focused on also serves as the foundation for authoring technical mis-specific applications.

Basis of Design (BoD): a document that records the concepts calculations decisions and product selections used to meetthe OPR and to satisfy applicable regulatory requirements standards and guidelines. The document includes both narra- tive descriptions and lists of individual items that support thedesign process.

Appendices are included to assist in fuorther understand-ing the Cx. Based on specifc project experiences they sug-gest ways to improve current practices and illustrate a vuriety of Cx applications with examples for developing the Owner'sProject Requirements Basis of Design design criteria design concepts verijfication and fionctional performcncetesting requirements operator training ancd more.

checkfists: verification checklists that are developed and used during all phases of the Cx to verify that the OPR is beingachieved. These include checklists for general verification plus testing training and other specific requirements.

Commissioing Proces (Cx): a quality-focused process forenhancing the delivery of a project. The process focuses onverifying and documenting that all of the missioned sys- tems and assemblies are planned designed installed tested operated and maintained to meet the OPR.
