This British Standard supersedes BS 10:1962 which is withdrawn.
It should be noted that apart from cast iron flanges the hydraulic testpressure applied to a flange joint is limited to one-and-a-half timesthe highest rated pressure of the flange (see Clause 8).
This is a fullrevision of the standard and introduces the followingprincipal changes:
●The standard has been re-arranged to reflect the most mon used materials and types in service;
BS 10 flanges have been in use since 1904 and have beentemperaturerequirements.At the time of this revision flangejoints with carbon steel pipe flanges for high temperatures andpressures to the British Standard tables have been in service throughout the world for periods equal to the economic lifeof primary plant. The tables have therefore remained in thestandard for guidance.
NOTEWhen it is required to convert the figures in this standard fromimperial units into metric units it is remended that the conversionfactors and the table of conversion contained in BS 350 *Conversion factors and tables" be used. Attention is also drawn to BS 2856 (Use 1 in = 25 mm when converting to metric dimensions.)
The provisions of this standard are presented in roman (i.e. upright)principal auxiliary verb is “shall*.
type. Its requirements are expressed in sentences in which the
