and to the intermnational organizations concemed with safety in the transport of dangerous goods. The Remendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods are addressed to govermments

of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods was published in 1956 (ST/ECA/43-E/CN.2/170). The first version prepared by the United Nations Economic and Social Council's Commite

regularly amended and updated at succeeding sessions of the Committee of Experts pursuant to Resolution In response to developments in technology and the changing needs of users they have been645 G (XXIll) of 26 April 1957 of the Economic and Social Council and subsequent resolutions.

At its nineteenth session (2-10 December 1996) the Committee adopted a first version of theof the Remendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. This was done to facilitate the direct “Model Regulations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" which were annexed to the tenth revised editionintegration of the Model Regulations into all modal national and international regulations and thereby enhanceharmonization facilitate regular updating of all legal instruments concerned and result in overall considerable resource savings for the Governments of the Member States the United Nations the specialized agencies andother international organizations.

By resolution 1999/65 of 26 October 1999 the Economic and Social Council extended themandate of the Committee to the global harmonization of the various systems of classification and labelling of chemicals which are applicable under various regulatory regimes c.g: transport; workplace safety;consumer protection; environment protection etc.

The Committee was reconfigured and renamed “Committee of Experts on the Transport ofDangerous Goods and on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals" supported with one sub-mittee specialized in transport of dangerous goods and another one addressing the global harmonization of classification and labelling of chemicals.

Modelgulations n theTransport fDangerous Goodsconcerning intralialctronic storage systems At its ninth session (7 December 2018) the Commite adopted a set of amendments to the(including lithium batteries installed in cargo transport units and defective batteries) explosives infectious waste of Category A waste gas cartridges harmonization with the 2018 Edition of IAEA's Regulations for theSafe Transport of Radioactive Material listing of dangerous goods update of LCso values for some toxic gasesand use of in vitro skin corrosion methods for classification.

This twenty-first revised edition of the Remendations takes account of all the amendmentswhich were circulated as documents ST/SG/AC.10/46/Add.1.

“Remendations ontheTransportofDangerous Goods ManualofTests and Criteria At its ninth session the Committee also adopted a set of amendments to the(ST/SG/AC.10/46/Add.2). Noting that the work to facilitate the use of the Manual in the context of the GHShad been pleted the Committee considered that the reference to the “Remendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" in the title of the Manual was no longer appropriate and that from now on the Manualshould be entitled “Mamual of Tests and Criteria". The amendments adopted by the Committee will bereflected in the seventh revised edition of the Manual (ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.7).

The Committee also adopted amendments to the “Globally Harmonized System ofClassification and Labelling of Chemicals" (GHS) (ST/SG/AC.10/46/Add.3) which will be reflected in the eighth revised edition of the GHS (ST/SG/AC.10/30/Rev.8).
