This standard shall apply to passive and active fire protection and life safetyequipment and systems.
1.4 New Technology.
1.4.1
New technology proposed for installation for which there is no publishedproduct instruction or installation standard shall function as intendedthroughout its life cycle in accordance with the owner's project requirements andbasis of design.
Technical documentation shall be submitted to the authority having jurisdictionto demonstrate equivalency.
The system method or device shall be approved for the intended purpose.

Definitions
3.1 General.
The definitions contained in this chapter shall apply to the terms used in thisstandard.Where terms are not defined in this chapter or within another chapter
they shall be defined using their ordinarily accepted meanings within thecontext in which they are used. Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary 11thedition shallbe the source forthe ordinarily accepted meaning.
An organization office orindividual responsible for enforcing the requirementsof a code or standard orfor approving equipment materials aninstallation ora procedure.
Equipment materials or services included in a list published by an organizationevaluation of products or services that maintains periodic inspection ofproduction of listed equipment or materials or periodic evaluation of services and whose listing states that either the equipment material or service meetsappropriate designated standards or has been tested and found suitable for aspecified purpose.

The document prepared for each project that identifies the processes andprocedures necessary for a successful missioning process.

3.3.3.5Fire CommissioningAgent(FCxA). The plete set of missioning documents for the project.
A person or entity identified by the owner who leads plans schedules documents and coordinates the fire protection and life safety systemsmissioning team and implements the fire protection and life safetysystems missioning process.
3.3.3.6*FireProtection and LifeSafety SystemsCommissioning (FCx).
A systematicprocess forproviding documented confirmation that fireprotection and life safety systems function according to the design criteria asset forth in the project documents and satisfies the owner's operational needs including pliance with the applicable governing laws regulations codes and standards.
3.3.3.7*FireProtection andLife Safety Systems CommissioningTeam.
A team of qualified individuals or entities tasked with acplishing thepurpose of this standard.
3.3.3.8*Re-missioning (Re-Cx).
Where existing fire protection and life safety systems have previously beensubject to fire protection and life safety systems missioning in accordancewith NFPA 3 this is the process of reverifying that system performancecontinues to meet the owner's project requirements and basis of design.
