Abstract: The diagnostic testing of new or service-aged installed shielded power cable systems measurement and location is covered by this guide. PD testing which is a useful indicator of which include cable joints and terminations using electrical partial discharge (PD) detection insulation degradation may be carried out online or by means of an external voltage source. The testing of pressed gas insulated cable or termination systems is not covered by this guide.

IEEE Standards documents are developed within IEEE Societies and submittes of IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) Board of Govermors. IEEE develops its standards through an accredited consensusdevelopment process which brings together volunters representing varied viewpoints and interests to achieve the final product. IEEE Standards are documents developed by volunteers with scientific academic and industry-based expertise in technical working groups. Volunteers are not necessarily members of IEEEor IEEE SA and participate without pensation from IEEE. While IEEE administers the process and establishes rules to promote fairness in the consensus development process IEEE does not independentlyevaluate test or verify the accuracy of any ofthe information or the soundness of anyjudgments contained inits standards.
